Chris Suttie,  Research Teapot
We wanted to have the spikes of the teapot representing covid while still keeping the integrity of his style. The piece was incredibly fragile and  couldn’t be useas a teapot  as there were some serious leakage.

Found tubes in  the  skip,  and used DAS clay for  the “tentacles”.

Testing the papier maché sphere, and the  weight. There is a builder’s hat inside.

Adding the mesh for visibility

Testing the walk down the stairs for the visibility.

Addition of a backpack structure, as the weight was too intense, and the papier sphere was tipping forward.

View from the front, it has a strap that can be adjusted, Nefeli will not be able to sit down however, so she will be waiting at the top of the stairs until queue.

PHOTOSHOOT NOT  EDITED YET

Covid with the Covid teapot.  The teapot is so fragile  that  this  was a very tricky  operation.

SPOTLIGHT

Georges Floyd Murder

Animation by  Filipa Castro Animation, CSM.

May 2o20

Stefan Lin, PDP second year made this headpiece. We were inspired by Laetitia Ky, instagram artist using her hair to express political views.
We started with a decathlon hoop and wrapped it with hair. Then, Stefan made a fist in wire and wrapped it with locks. The structure is metal and we added bobbypins for stability. The pearls represent blood, we thought that if  the headpiece didn’t  have a negative connotation such as bleeding and a direct association to murder. It could be wrongly interpreted,  as if we were critisizing the movement BLM, obviously good, as opposed to the murder, horrible.

Klinta is a CSM, ceramic 2nd year student, we have collaborated together in making the teapot to represent George Floyd Murder and B.L.M.
Here are some explorations, gunshots through the vessel, a fist, we also experimented with dyed red water coming out of the cracks.

Melina,  last minute backup performer had a smaller head than Eliza ,  so the headpiece was a bit unstable and tipping forward... Although at first distressed by the  fact that there was a change, I realised the acting background of  Melina  was helpful and perhaps  more so than the dancing  background of Eliza.  Furethermore we figured that having a  white performer to portray the role of the murder actually made more sense.
