Chancellor Brexit

Brexit was a difficult headpiece as Intangible as well. As a major event of 2020, I felt very strongly about it, being French and felt it deserved an imposing headpiece. Visually, I identified a lot to Banksy’s depiction of Brexit, a star being removed from the flag, additionally pictures of a piece of the puzzle breaking away, a burnt hole in a flag, an island on its own were poignant metaphors.
I really like the “savage” look of the aged fabric, and the recycled aspect. It makes the tearing very real!

I worked with HongJi Yan on this headpiece, and we both wanted to express the tearing appart of the two nations. We wished to express the fraction and division of the UK and Europe. All with Fabric.
It would be made on a biker’s hat, using pillows and recycled fabric.

It was a bit unpractical for the performer as the piece was huge and therefore the weight was pulling their head to one side. However, I still find it imposing and striking.![]()

I worked with Elin Hughes for the ceramics, and she really felt the idea of the tearing appart, so we wanted to do a two way teapot, one the uk and the other Europe, as both are now facing opposite directions.
